Soul for a Girlfriend?

Chapter 238 - My First Mixer!

Last week was quite hectic with exams and everything. I barely got time to rest and sleep properly. This was one of the downsides of not studying the whole year and going on a burst just a night before the exams.

The exam was pretty decent and I think I\'ll score a bit higher this time. I was in quite a dilemma this time because I had this strange urge to score higher than my usual threshold.

Maybe I was trying to check whether I was stagnant at that level or I could surpass it at my will.

It was more like a self challenge.

Nonetheless, I was looking forward to the results after quite a while now. I had forgotten this feeling after middle school. The sheer excitement and thrill of knowing one\'s result.

I wonder why this happened all of a sudden.

Biology exam was held in the middle of week and the questions were quite direct. Seryoku thanked me yesterday for lending him my notes as it helped him a lot apparently.

He was quite genuine about and treated me a chocy milk on his behalf. He was a good guy who treats chocy milk for helping him. His image changed from \'a dude who talks in the toilet\' to \'a dude who treats chocy milk for helping him\'.

That was quite the progression.

Seryoku was indeed a chill person and I found it rather easy to strike up conversations with him even though the topics were random and meaningless, he seemed to enjoy them.

He was also considering dating a girl from another girl, which he only told me about. I found it rather odd that he spilled something like that to me out of all the people he could\'ve said.

Maybe because of the girl in question the he didn\'t said this to anyone.

During the exam week, I haven\'t really got a chance to have a conversation with Shiraishi except for the small text exchanges that I did before going to sleep. I used to sleep late at night, so she always gave me company.

It was rather unusual considering that she was going out of her way to stay awake and talk with me despite having an exam the next morning.

Despite her reputation, she was quite an interesting girl.

She was quite annoying at first and didn\'t like to have any sort of interaction with her. But as I talked with her and eventually got to know her bit by bit, she appeared to be a normal girl who was trying her best to hold her own.

She was the kind of person to go with the flow.

Shiraishi was walking in front of me with Moriko next to her. Since exams were over and we didn\'t got anything to do before the exam, Shiraishi planned on going to a mixer with some of her friends from other schools.

We\'re directly heading there from school, so it was getting slightly dark. The roads and trees around us were bathed in the orange light of the sun setting at the horizon. The streets were busy with people as a mild chill was in the air.

Shiraishi told me about this last night, so I had no other option than to agree with her and go along.

I see what she did there.

Mixer was a kind of event where a person like me wouldn\'t fit at all. I thought of declining her offer but then I remembered the fact that I was dating her and I needed to be a bit possessive for her.

Tsūmen and Gaisen were quite shocked when I told them that I waa going to a mixer. Tsūmen had this stern look on his face, by which I could tell that he didn\'t like the fact that I was changing under the influence of a girl.

He didn\'t comment anything since he respected my decisions and after the argument we had a few weeks ago, he apologized to me for acting that way and forcing his ideals on me.

I liked this thing about him. He was quite a flexible guy with a broad mind.

Since I wasn\'t going to stop her from attending an event with boys from other schools, I decided to go along with her. That way I wouldn\'t look too desperate and I could keep a sense of possession on her.

She appeared way too happy about the fact that exams were over and was looking forward to attending this mixer.

Mixer was an event where students or people from different institutions gather with the main motive of getting to know each other better. But that\'s what the meaning was from the surface. Mixers go a lot deeper than one might think.

Mixers were basically places for students to hook up, if I was to explain that in a rather blunt way.

I had my reason to be worried about Shiraishi and letting her go on this event.

And for me, I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do in that mess of a meeting. There would be girls from other schools too, which meant a potential threat for Shiraishi. Even though she might not show it, she does get jealous.

I wouldn\'t want some boy to ruin my progress so it was necessary to keep an eye on her. Knowing how she was, it was quite simple to sway her mind. No wonder her ex-boyfriends manipulated her left and right.

Not that I was any different from them.

I looked over at Shiraishi and she had a cheerful smile on her face. She was talking with Moriko and both of them were laughing among themselves. I felt rather invisible, but that\'s simply because I had a weak presence.

"Is something wrong, Saishi?" Shiraishi asked me, as her voice broke my chain of thoughts and my eyes shifted at her. With a slight nod, I replied, "Nah, when will we reach?"

"It\'s just around the corner." She said pointing in front of her as I wasn\'t familiar with the place so I just nodded and continued walking.

Never in my life did I imagine that a day would come when I would go to a mixer.
